Winchester City Mill

Grandad Harker had suggested a good entry in Megan’s holiday scrapbook would be ‘the story of bread’. He took Megan into the field opposite our house to take a photograph and collect some wheat. Today we decided to extend that story by visiting Winchester City Mill to see grain being stone ground into flour.

There were also some interesting exhibits at the mill including one on balance scales and another on pulleys.

We bought some flour and some recipe cards so watch this space for some more baking results

  1. An excellent introduction to ‘hands on’ science and technology. It’s lovely to see Megan and William working collaboratively to investigate the balance and pulley apparatus.

  2. Grandad enjoyed taking Megan across the road to take photos for her scrapbook. We all enjoyed watching the combine harvesters working in the field across the road from Peel park but, unfortunately, we didn’t have a camera with us!
