Megan’s 7th Birthday Part 3 – The big day has finally arrived

Well, there was to be no repeat of the last time we were in Cumbria for Megan’s birthday as Megan and William were up and about from 5am wondering when then could go upstairs and see if there were any presents. We finally gave in shortly after 6 for the unwrapping frenzy to begin.

It was nice for Megan to be able to speak to members of the family, who could wish her a happy birthday in person – even Aunty Clare all the way from a beach in Corfu!!

Megan chose the activities for the day – a hike up to Hoads Monument followed by a bike ride along Ulverston Canal.

Hoads Monument is an iconic lighthouse style folly that towers over Ulverston.  Despite having been a frequent visitor to this area of over 10 years we have never got around to visiting it.  So what better an occasion to visit as we will always remember our visit to Hoads monument on Megan’s 7th Birthday!

Megan, being the accomplished walker she now is lead the way… Yes, that is her in the high-vis jacket.  A birthday present (to keep her safe when cycling on the roads back at home) that she liked so much she wore it ALL day!!!

Having started from Ford Park – a great place to visit in its own right, we made the summit in good time.  A summit group selfie see’s the monument sprouting out of Megan’s Head like a giant birthday candle – I am sure Lay will say this was planned 😉

We decided the views over Ulverston to the south and the fells and mountains to the north were spectacular enough to warrant an early lunch stop.

Once back down to sea level we moved our car back to Booths car park and for the fourth and final time this holiday we went to Ulverston Canal where a blur of fluorescent jackets zoomed off (as William put on his high-vis jacket for the bike ride).  They were too fast for photos today – they had stopped and had snacks and drinks by the time we caught up with them (as Megan had a new basket for the front of her bike and was able to carry their provisions).  Definitely time for Lay and I to get on our bikes in order to keep up with them!

Back at the barn, we had definitely earnt ourselves a slice of birthday cake.  We had managed to keep the cake a surprise although I am not sure Megan fully believed the tale that we had stuck a candle in a chocolate mini roll.  Que birthday song….

”Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday dear Megan

Happy Birthday to you!!!”

We then set about preparing a BBQ supper – cheeseburgers, salad, coleslaw and corn-on-the cob – Great choice Megan.

One final surprise for Megan was a phone call from her friend Evelina – all the way from Germany.  It was great for them to have a good natter.

Megan assures me her birthday was ‘the best day EVER’ and as she tucked up in bed she said ‘I love my bike’.  I am sure she will have sweet birthday dreams tonight.

Happy Birthday Megs

Love
